Call buying is picking up in Garmin (GRMN) on chatter Nokia (NOK) might be interested in acquiring the company. Nokia has been attempting an acquisition of Navteq (NVT), which is a key map supplier to Garmin. Shares of Garmin fell 10 percent when the deal was announced on October 1. However, Bloomberg reported last week that Nokia has failed to address EU anti-trust concerns surrounding the deal and NVT has been under pressure on concerns about the deal taking place, down 9.4 percent in the past four weeks. At $67.83, NVT is well below NOK?s $78.00 per share offer. It is possible, then, that Nokia would back away from the NVT deal in favor of a merger with Garmin. It is purely speculation, but it is perhaps the reasoning underlying the action in GRMN this morning. Stock up $1.87 to $62.00. Meanwhile, 7,285 GRMN calls have traded, ten times the number of puts, and sentiment is 66 percent bullish.
