The Dow Jones Industrial Average (.DJX) is trying to climb out of a hole Tuesday afternoon. After falling to a low of 8,561 this morning, the Dow has battled back to 8,831, down 40 points on the trading session. All thirty Dow stocks were lower this morning, but now 12 are higher with a number of cyclical names (Home Depot, Caterpillar, United Tech) showing relative strength. 11,000 DJX puts and 3,600 calls have traded. The CBOE Dow Jones Volatility Index (.VXD) is up .49 to 55.08 and down from session highs of 59.15. The 20-day statistical volatility of the Dow is 70.8 percent.
