CBOE Volatility Index (.VIX) is up 2.18 to 28.40 and making a run to session highs, as lousy jobs data and a thin market conspire to send the Dow down 180 points and to session lows. VIX is now up 3.60 points (14.5 percent) from the lows seen Wednesday, when the volatility index dipped below 25 for the first time since Sep 12, 2008.
