CBOE Volatility Index (.VIX) is down .10 to 23.04 despite a 2.6 point loss in the S&P 500. While the S&P 500 is lower, breadth reflects mixed trading — with 200 S&P 500 stocks posting early gains. In addition, the financials (as measured by the XLF) are steady after President Obama’s State of the Union address last night didn’t hold any additional surprises related to bank reform and ahead of the decision regarding Bernanke’s second term. Bernanke’s first term ends Sunday and a vote regarding Bernanke’s second term is expected early afternoon today, according to CNBC.
