First Solar (FSLR) is up $1.07 to $15.24 in active trading and easily the best percentage gainer in the S&P 500 on upbeat comments from NRG’s chief executive. According to Dow Jones, CEO Tom Doyle said that First Solar’s performance in building an Agua Caliente Solar Farm has exceeded all expectations and at 200 megawatts is now the world’s largest photovaltaic power plant. Shares are lighting up on the commentary and options on First Solar are active as well. 15,000 calls and 7,500 puts so far — a ratio of two-to-one. Looks like short-term momentum players are driving a lot of the flow. July 15 and 16 calls are the most actives, with a combined 8,600 contracts traded so far. 30-day ATM vols are moving up along with the underlying — +8.5% to 81.
