WhatsTrading.com Options Recap — 08/22/2012

| August 22, 2012 | 0 Comments More

Today’s recap will be brief because I just left the CBOE and running around Chicago this afternoon. S&P 500 is drifting down 4 points to 1,409.17 and volumes remain light heading into FOMC minutes due at 14:00 EDT. Existing Homes sales were up to 4.47 million in July, but that fell short of analyst expectations. The market showed little reaction to the numbers. Poor Trade numbers in Japan and losses across European equity markets set the table for the morning weakness on Wall Street. Now, it’s wait-and-see ahead of the minutes, as investors look for greater clarity on the monetary policy front.

CBOE Volatility Index (.VIX) added .34 to 15.36 after jumping 1 point yesterday. 4.5 million calls and 4.1 million puts traded, or about 90 percent the typical volume. DELL is seeing active trading, as shares fall 6.2 percent on an earnings miss. EBAY and Discover (DFS) are busy, as the two companies ironed out a deal related to paypal merchants. There’s been bearish spread trading in some of the ETFs that track the broader market – IWM and SPY.
