WhatsTrading.com Options Recap — 11/01/2012
Stock market averages are holding solid gains in the final hour Thursday. European markets were mostly higher early, including a 1.4 percent jump in France’s CAC 40, heading into a heavy dose of domestic economic news. The data was mostly positive. ADP reported that the US economy added 158K private sector jobs in October, which was 15,000 more-than-expected. Jobless claims dipped to 363,000 last week and 15,000 better than anticipated. Strong jobs numbers come just one day before the Labor Department releases its key monthly report. Meanwhile, third quarter productivity was up 1.9 percent and .3 percent better-than-expected. And, ISM Index improved to 51.7, from 51.5 and .7 better than economists had predicted. Construction Spending was the only dim spot, increasing by .6 percent and .2 percent less than expected. On the commodities front, crude oil is up 66 cents to $86.90 on the heels of inventory data, but gold gave back $2.3 to $1716.8. On Wall Street, stock market averages opened higher and the rally gathered momentum through midday, but then slipped a bit heading into the close. The Dow Jones Industrial Average is now up 114 points and 64 points from session highs. The NASDAQ added 40.
