Trading is mixed following a round of in-line economic data and a handful of earnings releases Wednesday. Before the opening bell, the Labor Department reported that CPI was unchanged last month, which matched economist estimates. Industrial Production was up .3 percent in December and .1 percent more-than-expected, but the NAHB Homebuilder Sentiment Index for January was at 47 and slightly below expectations of 48. Meanwhile, Goldman Sachs (GS) gained 4 percent in the wake of its earnings report, which easily beat Street expectations, and JP Morgan (JPM) is little changed after its report was mostly in-line with expectations. Crude oil prices are up 91 cents to $94.19 per barrel, but gold lost $2 to $1682. Japan’s Nikkei shed 2.6 percent overnight in technical action after being somewhat overbought. Trading was mixed across other European markets and the euro is flat at 1.33 on the dollar. Boeing (BA) lost 3.9 percent and is the biggest loser in the Dow, as its 787 Dreamliner is turning into a bit of a shareholder nightmare. The Dow is down 40 points. But, the NASDAQ gained 8 points following an aggressive rebound in Apple (AAPL)
