WhatsTrading.com Options Recap — 03/25/2013

| March 25, 2013 | 0 Comments More

Stock market averages opened higher and the S&P was back within striking distance of new records, but the early advance fizzled after the euro faltered midday Monday. The underlying tone of trading was positive early on reports Cyprus had reached an agreement on an EU bailout by pledging to reduce the size of its banking industry. Early enthusiasm faded, however, as the euro fell sharply from 1.3047 against the dollar to 1.285, near last week’s lows. Unconfirmed talk about a downgrade to Italy’s credit rating as well as worry about Russia’s response to the deal weighed on the European currency also factored into the mid-morning reversal. Europe’s equity markets also erased gains, as did the S&P 500. The index, which was less than .5 points from notching a new record, is now down 7.39 to 1549.50. VIX hit a morning low of 12.39 and is now up .77 to 14.25. Trading in the options market is running about the typical levels, with 5.4 million calls and 5.1 million puts traded so far.
