Market action is mixed and continues to reflect the cautious underlying tone after global financial markets were reeling Thursday. Japan closed up 1.7 percent Friday, but Europe finished in the red and many European indexes have fallen to their lows for 2013. In the US, no domestic news was offered, but Oracle weighed on tech stocks in the wake of the company’s latest earnings report. The ten-year Treasury continues to garner much attention, as its yield climbs to 2.5 percent. CME raised margin on interest rate products amid the volatility. On the stock front, the Dow is clinging to a 22-point gain, but trading remains choppy. The NASDAQ lost 16.5. CBOE Volatility Index is off 1.61 to 18.88. Trading on the options front is heavy and also being driven by the June expiration. 10.3 million calls and 11.6 million puts traded so far, on pace for 27.3 million contracts. Yesterday saw more than 32 million and the fourth busiest day ever for the options market.

Top five new positions opened include 373k Pfizer Inc (PFE) Jul-13 35 puts, 352k Pfizer Inc (PFE) Jul-13 35 calls, 43k Bank of America Corporation (BAC) Jul-13 14 puts, 30k Ultra Petroleum Corp (UPL) Sep-13 25 puts and 30k Procter and Gamble Co (PG) Jan-15 65 calls.
